Sometimes a block can be a blank space! It’s like playing tetris and you need that specific shape to come and take it’s space and when you run out of options, that space gets covered and it’s so frustrating. This is bringing back memories. I spent many an hour playing that game on my Gameboy.
While driving me home the other day, my friend was sharing about the struggles she is running into with her novel. And I could feel the way I listen with so much focus and concentrated joy. I love this feeling. It’s a rush to think- “what if I can give her some inspiration to go yes, that’s it! That’s how to progress this story, or flesh out this character. THAT’S IT!”
To experience the “THAT’S IT” moment second hand is such a thrill.
I don’t think any of the friends that I have listened to intently and given some nugget of inspiration know how much it means to me.
It’s like a beam of sunlight into my soul that I could listen to my intuition, experience, opinions, knowledge (to varying degree of those things depending on how much I actually know about the thing being discussed) and be apart of awakening an eagerness to doing is awesome. If you’ve read the different text around this website you’ll see that I’ve tried expressing this in other ways.
Which leads me back to the blank space block- there’s an idea without form. There’s a desired outcome without the steps to get there. The more we can uncover and give definition to the lack, the more we can plow through stagnancy and crank out ideas.
Maybe the blank space is a lack of a skill. If it’s a podcast, maybe you don’t know how to find guests, or edit. Maybe it’s not a lack of ability in anything, you just don’t have time for certain aspects of the to do list. That’s probably the most realistic of all the challenges out there. Time. Every chunk of time in your day is packed tight and you probably already feel overwhelmed.
For the lack of time block- there are two answers. One- now is just not a doable season. If you add more to your plate it will crack and your body will take the rest it needs in the form of a debilitating season of burn out. You can’t do everything and you sure as heck can’t add another thing.
The other answer is- what is there in your life that is not a necessary thing that you can remove, or take a break from, so that you can insert this creative project. Is it doomscrolling, binge watching shows or movies, going out a few times a week?
I do want to say, I’m not moralizing being on the phone, watching things, or having a social life. We should relax, we should enjoy things, we should have friends. We shouldn’t give up everything that gives us joy because there is a creative thing we want to do. I’m talking about doing some things less. If you really want to write that novel, start that podcast, or document that journey through vlogging, you need some time to do it. Time doesn’t just magically show up at the door wearing a sparkly tutu singing “TA DAAAAAAA”
I would love to help you look at your time and conquer that block and beyond., through the discouragement and lonliness that pops up all along the process, straight on to putting something out into the world that you are genuinely proud of! Let’s do this! I would also love to be someone who lets you off the hook, who sees that you are in a season of inescapable obligation and now is not the right time to be launching anything. Let’s connect later when things have calmed down a bit.
Sometimes it just helps to have another compassionate pair of eyeballs on your situation who can be there on the journey with you. I better cut this off before it gets too much longer!
Huuuuuuugs!
